As our little white Fiat 500 emerged from the mountain tunnel, I saw it; the mesmorising grey silk-like waters of Lake Como. I knew right then and there this was going to be a very special place for me. I had never been to Italy before but one beautiful day in May 2006 I was whisked away by someone very tall, dark and extremely handsbme to their private villa on the shores of Como, a stone's throw from George Clooney's rather modest pad, whilst overlooking the gleaming town of Bellagio.
I had seen some of the most amazing parts of the world views, that were worthy of a magazine cover but this place was something very different. I felt I was the star in my own Hollywood movie, although ever so slightly less glamorous! We spent our days eating fresh pasta, exploring the towns and cobbed streets, drinking Barollo wine like it was lemonade and soaking up the sunshine from our very own speed boat. I was completely head over heels in love and I never wanted to leave.
But work at that time was back in the UK and property was all I knew. So when the tall, dark and handsome one bought an Art Deco style villa overlooking the lake, I couldn't help but do a happy dance and get excited about the possibilities. The property was to generate an income and that is where I stepped in. I couldn't imagine a more romantic and perfect place to marry the love of your life. I decided the villa was going to be a wedding venue and I was going to make it happen.
It took me three years to plan a wedding that I was proud of. I spent day after day to establish exactly what I needed to offer to our couples and how we would work with them to create their wedding day. In those three years I discovered who I wanted to work with, who the creatives were and who were the inspirational, the reliable and trustworthy that I was going to introduce to our bride and grooms. But wow those three years were tough! I lost thousands of pounds busying items I didn't need or were not up to the job. I did not read the small print and get an understanding of just how that would impact on me. I chose to work with so called professionals based on their word and their all singing and dancing websites. I wasn't aware of what needed to be done and when, which led to one couple getting the go ahead to marry only 24 hours before their wedding day! It was chaotic, frantic and stressful.
But we all have to start somewhere right? And it wasn't long before I had streamlined the business and it was running an extremely successful and truly wonderful international wedding planning business based in the UK work with some of the most fantastic of clients all over the world. Thanks to a very special and talented jeweller and friend of mine, Mr Steven Quance who introduced me to an international sports agency and that catapulted Alexis Wedding and Evet Planning in the luxury sphere. I planned wedding events for some of the most well know sports personalities and their families and it meant my creative side could go wild. It was a dream.
Can you feel a big BUT coming on? ...... With my business now out there the enquiries were coming in thick and fast. I am a that person who wants to do it all and help everyone, promise the world and deliver the Milky Way! But that just simply wasn't working for the business, my couples or my own personal well-being. Very few of us have the A-Lister budget to spend on our wedding day, but do have equally epic dreams for our wedding. I had reached a point where I didnt feel I could served many who really needed it. I felt for a while, disillusioned with what I was doing. I knew I wanted to serve everyone but didn't know how I could do it.
Then one day in 2020, the world locked down as Covid 19 swept the globe. Within just a few weeks the world became still. Weddings stopped. And although like most I was making banana bread whilst my garden had never looked better, it did give me time. Time to think, time to plan and time to create something epic! I wanted to work with all couples to help them plan their wedding day of their dreams. No matter what the dream is. No matter what their budget maybe. The where, when, who just didn't matter. I truly believe that everyone deserves the wedding day of their dreams. I wanted every couple to access the professionals at the top of their game so they could have that day without compromise or regret.
And so The Bride Squad was created! I planned it out on paper first and then headed out to talk to hundreds of brides to be to find out exactly what they needed. It was the community of brides both past and present that helped shape The Bride Squad and what it is today. I am eternally grateul to each and everyone of them for sharing their stories and opening their hearts to help create what I believe is a unique and bloomin awesome place for every single couple who can now access their very own pressional wedding planner and creative taem to create their wedding day they have always dreamt of.
